Day 1: Explore the geometry behind the construction

You should be able to calculate circumference and also be able to find the arc length of a quarter circle. You will also need to apply the Pythagorean theorem and use trigonometry functions or in a 30-60-90 triangle.

While preparing the milling instructions for this base plate to be produced, you will demonstrate your ability to perform the following mathematical skills:

1.) To graph and label points on the Cartesian coordinate system
In order to help you to better understand the Cartesian coordinate system, please download and try this Microsoft Excel program created by Ed Malczewski from the MSTE office.

2.) To describe, in terms of circles and lines, the path of a figure on the Cartesian coordinate system

3.) To calculate the slope of a line and to write equations for vertical and horizontal lines

4.) To apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle and/or use trig functions to find the missing sides of a right triangle

5.) To find the center, radius, diameter, circumference, and arc length of a circle
