This activity is appropriate for students at the middle or high school level. Though it uses a computer simulation, that is not meant to replace activities that use manipulatives.

A good extension of this activity would be to simulate the birth month problem using either a 12-sided die or a coin and a die to get random numbers between one and twelve and create a chart for the birth month problem similar to the one on the explanation page for the the birthday problem.
