Teacher/Volunteer Survey of Students in After School Program

Teachers/volunteers for Spring 2006 were asked to respond "yes" or "no" to each of the following about each student:

  • Has a positive attitude toward school.
  • Has a positive attitude toward the after school program.
  • Improved in coming to after school program ready/prepared to learn.
  • Improved in behaving attentive.
  • Improved in getting along well with other students.

Each student is assigned a score of 1 for yes, and 0 for no for each of the five aspects of attitude.

The chart below shows the proportion of Yes scores for Fall 2005 and Spring 2006.

The data suggest a slight decline from Fall 2005 to Spring 2006 in ratings of students for attitude toward school and toward the after school program and a somewhat great decline in getting along well with others.

(Note: A student obtaining a positive disposition score of 5 received yes ratings from teacher on all five categories.)

The chart below summarizes the positive disposition scores for the students in Fall 2005 and Spring 2006. The data suggest that the lower scores in Spring 2006 are due to the lower ratings of several of the students.

In spring 2006, teacher/volunteers were asked to report the subject on which each student spent most time during the after school program. As the chart below shows, the majority of the students reported spending most time on Mathematics and or English/Reading.
