Using Multiple Layouts in FileMaker Pro

Creating a second layout

Now that you have mastered designing the perfect layout it is time to create a second layout. This is done while in Layout Mode. Go to Mode in the Menu Options and select "New Layout."

It will prompt you for a name, the default would be "Layout #n." I suggest changing the name at this point to something that you will be able to easily identify with it. For instance, I called the layout "Student Information" because this layout contains just that, information about the students.

The prompt also lists a number of choices for the type of layout you would like. I have created labels, envelopes, extended columnar, and standard layouts as examples. Pick the type you would like to create.

The next dialog box asks which fields you would like to include in this form. Double click on any of the fields you wish. When you have selected all that you would like click "ok" and FileMaker will create the new layout for you.

Now, you have a new layout in the same database that you can design. Keep in mind that you can use the exact techniques that you used to design Layout #1. The neat thing about multiple layouts is that you can include certain fields on one layout and other fields on another layout. Remember to have fun and make it your own database!
