Conic Sections

The conic sections are formed when a cone is sliced with a plane in a certain manner. Each section is formed from a different slice. Can you describe the slices that form the conic sections listed here?

For many it is difficult to visualize this slicing and conic section formation. I have drawn several CAD Drawings here that illustrate the sequence of slices and the figures created after slicing a cone with a plane. Please use the layers button to turn all the layers off (all UN-highlighted) then turn on the layers (conics) you would like to see. Try moving them around and zooming in on certain areas.
