For three days you will keep a food journal. Follow these steps:

  1. Each day’s meals and snacks should be entered into a separate journal form. You will find a separate form for DAY 1, DAY 2, and DAY 3.
  2. As you enter your Food Name, you must record How Much you have eaten. ( for example: 1 cup, 1 slice, 8 oz., 1 item) Record this information in the Amount Eaten column.
  3. You will also need to make a judgment in which "food group" your food belongs. Click here to see my example.
  4. To go to DAY 1, click here (Day1 tab) and begin entering your data.
  5. To go to DAY 2, click here (Day2 tab) and begin entering your data.
  6. To go to DAY 3, click here (Day3 tab) and begin entering your data.


After keeping a journal for 3 days, SELECT ONE day’s journal to investigate nutritional values. Follow these directions.

  1. Use your journal and a data base to look up the nutritional values of the foods you ate. Try these links: www.dole5aday.com, www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp, www.burgerking.com, www.mcdonalds.com, www.subway.com, www.wendys.com.
  2. Enter your information on the Nutritional Values Form. Click here to see a Teacher Demonstration.
  3. Totals for each column will automatically be added for you.
  4. Create 3-D CHARTs for each of your columns. Label your x and y axis and give your chart a title.
