Attitudes toward school/after school programs

The students were asked to complete a survey about their attitudes toward school and the after school program. The tables below summarize the number of students taking the survey, by semester, gender, race and year in school. Data are missing for some tables.

Students were asked to respond "yes" or "no" to each of the following:

  • I look forward to tutoring/after school program.
  • My parents talk to me about the after school program.
  • I feel safe and comfortable during the after school program.
  • The after school program helps me do better in school.
  • The after school staff encourages me to do well in school.

The graph below reports the proportion of YES responses for each of these five aspects of the after school program. As indicated, there was somewhat of an increase from Fall 2007 to Spring 2008 in positive responses to .Tutoring has helped me do better in school.. Student responses to the remaining aspects remained about the same or very slightly negative from fall to spring.

The students were asked in what school subject they were doing BEST during the 2007-08 school year. The chart below indicates that most students felt they were doing best in English/reading and Other (including computer technology).

The students were then asked in what school subject they most needed help. The chart below indicates that most students felt they most needed help in science.

Finally, the students were asked to provide feedback on various parts of the after school program.
