Attitudes toward school/after school programs

The students were asked to complete a survey about their attitudes toward school and the after school program.

The students were asked in what school subject they most needed help in Spring 2009. The table and chart below indicates that most students felt they needed help in mathematics.

Subject in which I most need help
Mathematics English/Reading Science Soc. Sciences Other Total
Year in School Fresh 8 95 37 32
Soph 14 29 02 27
Jun 18 63 54 36
Senior 10 40 23 19
Total 50 2117 1016 114

The students were also asked to respond "yes" or "no" to each of the following:

  • I look forward to tutoring/after school program
  • My parents talk to me about the after school program.
  • I feel safe and comfortable during the after school program.
  • The after school program helps me do better in school.
  • The after school staff encourages me to do well in school.

The graph below reports the proportion of YES responses for each of these five aspects of the after school program in 2008-09. As indicated, there was a slight increase from Fall to Spring in positive responses to all program aspects.

The students were then asked in what school subject they most needed help. The chart below indicates that most students felt they most needed help in Mathematics.
