Opinions on the After School Tutoring/Homework Help Program

The parents' opinions on the After School Tutoring/Homework Help Program were obtained through a survey.

Responses were received for 27 students, as noted in the table below. There were 11 males and 16 females in the group. The majority of students were juniors.

Year in School
9 10 11 12 Total
Gender Male 2 1 7 1 11
Female 2 4 5 5 16
Total 4 5 12 6 27

The parents were asked of their child (children):

  1. As a result of the after school program, does your (s/he) child look forward to going to school?
  2. As the table and graph below show:.

    • 22 parents responded 'Yes' to the question, including all seniors

The positive regard of the program, as held by parents, tends to increase as the student advances through school.

  3. The parents were also asked:
  4. As a result of the program is your child doing better in school?

As the table and graph below show:

  • The vast majority of parents (18 out of 27) responded ‘yes'. For seniors, 5 out of 6 parents responded YES.

Again, there is evidence that as students advance through school, parents tend more to report that their child is doing better in school.

The parents were also asked to state in what subject their child, as a result of the program, was doing better.

As the chart shows, by far the subject most mentioned was mathematics.
