Bloom HS Parent Survey Fall 2009

The parents' opinions on the After School Tutoring/Homework Help Program were obtained through a survey

Responses were received for 16 students, as noted in the table below. There were 9 males and 7 females in the group. The majority of students were seniors.

Year in School Total
9 10 11 12
Gender Male 2 2 1 4 9
Female 1 1 1 4 7
Total 3 3 2 8 16

The parents were asked of their child (children)

  1. As a result of the after school program, does s/he look forward to school?
  2. As the table and graph below show:

    • 9 parents responded 'Yes' to the question, including parents of 6 of the 8 seniors.

Note that the positive regard of the program, as held by parents, tends to increase as the student advances through school.

    Year in school Total
    9 10 11 12
As a result of the program, child looks forward to school No 0 0 0 1 1
    Undecided 1 2 2 1 6
    Yes 2 1 0 6 9
    Total 3 3 2 8 16

  3. The Parents were also asked:

  4. As a result of the program, is your child doing better in school?

As the table and graph below show:

  • The vast majority of the parents (9 out of 16) responded 'yes'. For seniors, 7 out of 8 parents responded YES

Again, there is evidence that as students advance through school, there is more discussion between parent and child about the program.

Year in school Total
9 10 11 12
As a result of the program, my child is doing better in school No 2 0 0 0 2
Undecided 0 3 1 1 5
Yes 1 0 1 7 9
Total 3 3 2 8 16

The parents were also asked to state in what subject their child, as a result of the program, was doing better

As the chart shows, by far the subject most mentioned was mathematics
