Teacher/Volunteer Survey of Students in After School Program
Teachers/volunteers for Fall 2006 were asked to respond "yes" or "no" to each of the following about each student:
- Had a positive attitude
- Had a positive attitude toward the after school program
- Improved in coming to after school program ready/prepared to learn.
- Improved in being attentive
- Improved in getting along well with other students.
Each student is assigned a score of 1 for yes, and 0 for no, for each of the five aspects of attitude.
A total of 30 students were reported upon by teachers/volunteers. The chart below shows the proportion of Yes scores for Fall 2006.
As the above graph shows, teachers report that 85% of the students have a positive attitude toward school but less than one-half feel positively about the program. About 2/3 of the students were reported as improving in getting along with others.
Positive disposition
(Note: A student obtaining a positive disposition score of 5 received yes ratings from teacher on all five categories.)
The chart below summarizes the positive disposition scores for the students in Fall 2006.
In Fall 2006, teacher/volunteers were asked to report the subject on which each student spent most time during the after school program. As the chart below shows, most students reported spending most time on Mathematics with English/Reading next in frequency.
