Attitudes toward school/after school programs

The students were asked to complete a survey about their attitudes toward school and the after school program. In fall 2006, 6 students took the survey. In spring 2007, 2 responded.

Students were asked to respond "yes" or "no" to each of the following:

  • I look forward to tutoring/after school program.
  • My parents talk to me about the after school program.
  • I feel safe and comfortable during the after school program.
  • The after school program helps me do better in school.
  • The after school staff encourages me to do well in school.

As the graph below shows, there were increases in the positive responses of the students that they were looking forward to the program and they believed that they were doing better in school. (It should be kept in mind that only 2 students responded in Spring 2007.)

The students were asked in which school subject they felt they were doing best.

One student reported doing best in English/reading, the other, in science.

The students were also asked in which school subject they felt they MOST needed help.

One reported most needing help in mathematics. The other student reported, ‘other’.
