Opinions on the After School Tutoring/Homework Help Program

Thirty-three parents responded to the survey. The students are classified by gender and year in school as in the table below.

Parents were asked:

  • As a result of the program, does your (she or he) child look forward to going to school?
As the graph below indicates, 26 of the parents responded ‘Yes’, with 8 undecided. None stated ‘No.’

  • My child and I talk about the After School Tutoring/ Homework Help Program

As the graph below indicates, 24 of the parents responded ‘Yes’, 7 were undecided and 3 reported ‘No’.

As a result of the program, my child is doing better in.. (what subject)

As the above graph indicates, mathematics is mentioned frequently as the subject in which the students are doing better as a result of the program

These comments were offered by the parents about the program.

Program has helped him/her in these ways:

  • Helped her to stay out of the streets
  • [Volunteer/Tchr] helped in math
  • Help understand exponents
  • Doing better in math
  • Allowing her to take her time on her work
  • It help put work before anything
  • His attitude change. It‘s more positive and he‘s happier.
  • By the math she is learning in the After School Program
  • With her school work
  • He will be graduating
  • He seems to want to do better in school
  • To help him do his school work

Program could be improved in these ways:

  • By having more activities and field trips
  • Math-N-Dancing
  • More people join
  • By making the learning experience a little bit more fun
  • Fine the way it is. (mentioned twice)
  • More hours
  • More trips for families
  • More fun activities for parents
