Attitudes toward school/after school programs

The students were asked to complete a survey about their attitudes toward school and the after school program. In fall 2006, 24 students took the survey. In spring 2007, 25 responded.

Students were asked to respond "yes" or "no" to each of the following:

  • I look forward to tutoring/after school program.
  • My parents talk to me about the after school program.
  • I feel safe and comfortable during the after school program.
  • The after school program helps me do better in school.
  • The after school staff encourages me to do well in school.

As the graph below shows, there were increases in the positive responses of the students toward the after school program at FUTURE. Especially noteworthy is the increase of students who report that their parents talk to them about the program and those who feel that the program helps them do better in school.

The students were asked in which school subject they felt they were doing best. As the chart below shows, science was a favorite.

The students were also asked in which school subject they felt they MOST needed help. As the chart below shows, several students indicated that they most needed help in all subjects. Only 1 identified Mathematics, English/reading and science as candidates for help.
