Bloom Trail REFs Teacher Survey Responses 2004-07

REFs is a summer program that is designed to help preparing incoming freshmen to be successful in English/Reading and mathematics.

In Spring 2007, an aspect of the effectiveness of the REFs program was studied by asking teachers of English/Reading, or mathematics, for feedback on the performance of those students.

The table below summarizes the number of students reported on by their in-school teachers, according to the summer in which the students were enrolled in REFs. For example, there were 116 freshmen [Summer 2006] who were reported on by their Eng/Reading teachers and 6 freshmen who were reported on by their mathematics teachers.

As the chart below shows, the teachers tended to agree that, by and large, REFs students turn in their homework on time. The current freshmen, however, are not quite as good in this regard.

Similarly, the teachers tend to agree that they are satisfied with the studentsí completion of their homework.

As noted below, the REFs students tend to be regular in class attendance.

By and large, as the teachers report, REFs students are attentive in class.

Overall, the teachers report that the REFs students are making good academic progress. Again, the freshmen are not quite as favorably reported upon.

Generally, according to the teachers, the REFs students participate in class.
