Attitudes toward school/after school programs

The students were asked to complete a survey about their attitudes toward school and the after school program.

A total of 71 students took the Spring survey. (In Fall 2006, 44 took the survey.)

Students were asked to respond "yes" or "no" to each of the following:

  • I look forward to tutoring/after school program.
  • My parents talk to me about the after school program.
  • I feel safe and comfortable during the after school program.
  • The after school program helps me do better in school.
  • The after school staff encourages me to do well in school.

As the graph below shows, most of the attitudinal responses changed little from Fall 2006 to Spring 2007. Responses are in general very positive. There is a slight decline in proportion of students who look forward to the after school program. On the low end of the reporting activity, for both fall and spring, only 2 out of 3 students state that their parents talk to them about the program.

The students were asked in what school subject they were doing BEST during the 2006-07 school year. The chart below indicates that, by far, most students felt they were doing best in English/reading.

The students were then asked in what school subject they most needed help. The chart below indicates that most students felt they needed help in mathematics.
