The parents were then asked to state ways in which the after school program had help his/her child.

Here is a summary of the responses.

The program has helped her/him in the following ways:

  • It’s there if he needs it. He uses it
  • His/her grades are better (mentioned 2 times)
  • Pull grades up and be more disciplined
  • My child is paying more attention
  • Hands on learning
  • As a quick learner when subject is explained well, it doesn’t take much for the concept to sink in.
  • Reading
  • She is doing much better in math
  • With homework
  • Understands the subject better(mentioned 2 times)
  • Follow directions, do well on test, and support her answers
  • Explaining in details more
  • The program has helped her to better understand homework
  • It hasn’t just yet

Finally, the parents were asked ways in which the program could be improved.

Their responses are summarized below

The program could be improved in the following ways:

  • Teachers are friendly, but not well versed in various explanations/methods for many students
  • Program is great. I just wish the late bus dropped him close to home
  • Everything is very good, that’s what he tells me
  • More teachers to help in one subject to illustrate
  • Longer hours (mentioned 3 times)
  • Backup work, 1 to 2 teachers at a table, and talking in a group
  • Continue to offer program to students
  • The program is fine. My son needs to apply himself
