This lesson utilizes spreadsheets and the Web to introduce the idea of linear regression. The lesson contains a downloadable spreadsheet in either Microsoft Excel 3.0 or 5.0, ClarisWorks 4.0 or Microsoft Works 4.0 format.
The files are for the most part self-explanatory. You do not need to know how to use a spreadsheet in great depth to do this lesson! There is only one main interface for the student to know which is entering values into the appropriate, highlighted cells.
If you have a Macintosh and StuffItExapnder, click on the following choices to download the appropriate spreadsheet.
Claris 4.0
Works 4.0
Excel 3.0
Excel 5.0
Or, you can ftp the file using either Fetch or Netscape.
Instructions for using Fetch:
Enter as your host: pc143.ed.uiuc.edu
Enter in the directory location: pub/ci300/regression.spreadsheets
Select the appropriate file and click Get File. Note: The samller sized file (~6kb) is the Excel 3.0 file and the larger file (~14kb) is the 5.0 file.
Instructions for using Netscape:
