How to Find the Mean




The mean is the ordinary arithmetic average that most of us know.

The mean of a set of data is usually easy to find. Just add all the numbers and divide by how many numbers are there.
For example the mean of our years list from our U.S. population data set is,

(0+1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+11+12+13+14+15+16)/17

This mean is 8.

You can do calculations like these in spreadsheets to save a lot of time to do such routine calculations.
