CHECKLIST GOAL TM 400M1AV : GRAPHING ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE TEST AVERAGES

NAME__________________________________DATE_____________________

_____1. READ GOAL TM400M GENERAL PROCEEDURES AND VIEW "VAT 40" VIDEO _____2. ATTEND INSTRUCTOR LECTURE/DEMO ON THE OPERATION OF THE "VAT 40" THE IMPORTANCE OF COLLECTING ACCURATE DATA.

_____3. REVIEW SAMPLE GRAPHIC PLOT OF ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE TEST VALUES IN WORKSHEET BELOW.

_____4 CHECK WITH YOU INSTRUCTOR FOR A VEHICLE TO TEST. USING "MITCHELL ON DEMAND" FIND DATA RELATED TO ALTRNATOR TESTING FOR YOUR SPECIFIC VEHICLE . RECORD THE REQUIRED SPECIFICATIONS ON THE WORKSHEET BELOW.

_____5. OBTAIN A COPY OF THE "VAT 40 MANUAL" AS A REFERENCE IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF HOW TO DO PERFORM AN ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE OUTPUT TEST.

**REMEMBER YOU MUST CHARGE YOUR BATTERY TO 12 VOLTS BEFORE TESTING FOR RELIABLE INPUT TO THE ALTERNATOR FIELD WINDINGS. IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF THE SAFE WAY TO CONNECT A BATTERY CHARGER, REVIEW THE CORRECT METHOD WITH YOUR INSTRUCTOR!!**

_____6. COMPLETE THE LOAD TEST RECORDING VOLTAGE VALUES AT THE FOLLOWING INTERVALS: AT THE START OF THE TEST OR 0 SECONDS, 5 SECONDS, 10 SECONDS, 15 SECONDS AND 20 SECONDS.

_____7. FOR A VALID AVERAGE TEST LINE ON YOUR GRAPH YOU NEED TO REPEAT THIS TEST 3 TIMES AND RECORD YOUR VOLTAGE VALUES ACCURATELY AT THE CORRECT TIME INTERVALS. REMEMBER YOUR BATTERY MUST BE CHARGED UP TO AT LEAST 12 VOLTS BEFORE YOU START TESTING!!!

_____8. WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR TM400M ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE TEST SHEET SEE YOUR INSTRUCTOR. HE WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO INPUT DATA INTO "MICROSOFT EXCELL" SO YOU CAN PRINT YOUR GRAPHS OF ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE TESTS AND AVERAGE VALUES.

_____9. PRINT SELECTED GRAPHS AND SHOW THEM TO YOUR INSTRUCTOR SO YOU CAN GET A SIGNATURE BELOW AND RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THIS GOAL.
