Objective: Students will use data collected to determine average velocity.
Briefly present the concept of velocity. People often use speed and velocity synonymously. Strictly speaking they are different. Speed is the term applied to magnitude and does not specify direction. Velocity has magnitude and direction.
Average velocity is applied to a situation where the object has a variable velocity. Average velocity is the rate of the total distance traveled to the total time required to travel that distance.
Have students complete student activity #4.
