Of course, by now you should know that my name is Carla Sorrell.  I was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on September 2, 1983 to Carl and Cleo Sorrell.  I have lived my whole life as an only child in Apex, North Carolina.  My parents have always been a very important part of my life and have supported all of my choices.  One of the reasons I am where I am today is because of all of their support and telling me that I can be anything I wanted to be, and this idea is the one that I like to tell my students.  It doesn't matter what type of family you come from, you can make yourself be whatever you put your mind to!  I attended Fred A. Smith Elementary School, West Lake Middle School, and Southeast Raleigh High School.  These three schools all prepared me for college, and not only gave me an academic education, but also taught me about diversity and social skills.  I chose to come to Meredith College because of the small environment, and I received the Teaching Fellows scholarship to attend!   I have always been very involved in community, school, and civic organizations, and held leadership positions.   This involvement did not stop in college because I have been very active at Meredith in my community and as a leader.  Meredith has really taught me confidence and how to have a voice wherever I go!   I have been a camp counselor, babysitter, and Meredith College Learning Center Mathematics Tutor, which has helped me develop skills in teaching people of all processing levels mathematics!  Right now I am finishing up my student teaching.  I am excited about graduating, but I will cherish all the memories I have had and miss my students, but I know there will be many more awaiting me to become their math teacher!
