Time:  40-50 minute class period
Prerequisite Knowledge:
    - Students should be familiar with the basic values of music notes (quarter notes, eighth notes, etc.)
Objectives:
-Students will demonstrate how to perform a basic rhythm pattern.
-Students will gain an understanding of tempo by learning how a              metronome works.
Materials: metronome, rhythm pattern worksheets
Procedure:
1.   The teacher will divide the students into three groups.
2.   The teacher will give each group a different pattern and sound.

Group 3.: Clap quarter note, clap two eighth notes, clap quarter note,           clap two eighth notes, etc.
3.   Each group will be given a few minutes to practice their sounds and patterns.
4.   When each group has learned their pattern, the teacher will explain how a metronome works to keep tempo.
5.   The teacher will set the metronome to a tempo and the groups will practice their sound patterns again keeping it to the beat of the metronome.
6.   After each group can demonstrate performing their sound pattern to the tempo of the metronome the teacher will start the rhythm one group at a time until all the entire class is participating in one rhythm.
7.   When the teacher feels the teacher has accomplished their pattern he or she will change the groups around.  Eventually each group will try out each pattern.
8.  Students will be given time at the end of class to make up their own sound patterns and rhythms.
Assessment:
