Birthday Problem: Teacher's Notes

This activity is appropriate for students at the middle or high school level. Though it uses a computer simulation, that is not meant to replace activities that use manipulatives.

A good extension of this activity would be to simulate the birth month problem using either a 12-sided die or a coin and a die to get random numbers between one and twelve and create a chart for the birth month problem similar to the one on the explanation page for the the birthday problem.

This page has been found by many students. Becky Schmoyer from Boyertown Area Senior High School used these pages for a paper on the Birthday problem.

Send any comments or questions to George Reese. Have Fun!
